The Calgary Flames are the latest NHL team to get on the trend of unveiling new mascots. With the game being marketed to you get and younger audiences, mascots are a great way to get everyone involved just not if they're nightmare fuel.
According to All Hockey Culture, the Flames are set to release their new mascot Scorch.
Scorch takes on the hockey world staring at 2pm MST.
First there was Gritty, then the Seattle Kraken mascot Buoy and now, Scorch. Why are all of these team mascots so horrifying? Isn't the point for the target demo of NHL hockey to get younger? If anything this might drive young kids away, not foster the love for the game.
To each their own I guess, the NHL is a billion dollar corporation and they know how to get people talking. This just seems like the wrong direction to go in if you want to grow the game and make it marketable to more audiences.
