Last night the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers squared off to open their respective seasons. On opening night, every player wants to be in the lineup and sometimes in order to do that, they not only play through injury, but sickness as well.
According to NHL Breakers on Instagram, Canucks starting goaltender Thatcher Demko was battling the flu all game, refusing to come out of the net for most of it; take a look.
Demko eventually would throw up in his mask before being pulled. Even wanting to continue after the fact. Head Coach Rick Tocchet had to step in and tell Demko his night was over.
The Vancouver goaltender stopped 21 of 22 shots faced before he was told to go rest.
If this doesn't prove that NHL players are a different breed of human, I don't know what will. In fact you could argue Demko had the NHL's Flue game.
