Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights make a trade
Earlier this summer the Carolina Hurricanes embarrassed the Vegas Golden Knights when they forced the Knights to receive no return in the Max Pacioretty trade. It was reported that Carolina wouldn't provide any tangible asset for Patches and instead insisted on sending the coveted "future considerations" to Vegas instead. Pacioretty tore his Achilles tendon shortly after and hasn't played since, but that hasn't stopped either team from completing another deal with one and other.
Yesterday the Hurricanes and Knights came together to make another trade. The Hurricanes officially acquired undrafted defender Zack Hates. Hayes, 23, has played this season in the AHL for the Henderson Silver Knights. On the season the 6'3 defender has just one assist.
In return the Golden Knights will again receive the coveted future considerations.
In junior Hayes was considered a valuable stay at home defender who played a physical game. Given the Hurricanes record of developing physical defenders Hayes could be a late bloomer. Hayes will report to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for now.
