While Craig Berube is no longer the head coach of the St. Louis Blues, it's clear fans still have a soft spot for him. Jordan Kyrou found out that out the hard way.
Following the news that Berube had been canned, Kyrou was asked about it and gave this response.
"I've got no comment. He's not my coach anymore."
While Kyrou may have thought he was taking the safe route with his comments, fans weren't happy. At the next Blues home game, he was booed by his home team fans, something that hit Kyrou hard as he choked back tears following the game.
"Obviously, I respect (Berube). He's been my coach the whole time I've been here. I respect everything he's done here. He's done a great job, he won a Cup. All I really meant was I'm just trying to focus on my future and focus what I can do to help my team win."
Berube himself has now been asked about Kyrou's comments, and he says fans need to go easy on him.
"That's tough. I don't think he meant anything by his comments. It's hard, and I feel for him. Getting boo'ed like that isn't easy on anybody."
"Listen, for me personally, I don't have an issue with it. Jordan and I, when we talked, it was fine. It was never not fine. Maybe he didn't say exactly what he wanted to say to me all the time, but it is what it is. Sometimes relationships can be rocky. They're not always going to be great. But for me, I'm fine with everything. It is what it is."
Sounds like Berube was the bigger man in this case. In addition to his comments on Kyrou, Berube told The Athletic he's going to spend some time with his family for now, but he's just not ready to give up on coaching yet if there's a team out there that wants to hire him.
