With the acquisition of Alexandar Georgiev earlier today, it indicates the end of Darcy Kuemper's run in Colorado. Kuemper is set to hit unrestricted free agency on July 13th.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger revealed that Kuemper is looking for a similar 6 year deal to what former Avs' goalie Philipp Grubauer got when he signed with the Seattle Kraken at a $5.9 AAV.

GM Joe Sakic was right to walk away from that ask. A 6 year deal for a 32 year old with an injury history is a ton of risk for any franchise to take on.

Colorado just doesn't have the cap space to allocate that much for a staring goaltender. They need to make decisions on Valeri Nichushkin, Artturi Lehkonen, Nazem Kadri, Andre Burakovsky and sign Nathan MacKinnon to a massive extension.

He was solid for the Avs during the playoffs, and did more than enough to get them across the finish line as Stanley Cup champion. He should be remembered fondly by Colorado fans for backstopping the team to their first Stanley Cup since 2001.

That same situation played out last summer when Grubauer landed a massive deal from the Kraken. They needed the money to keep Gabriel Landeskog and proved they could win with a different goaltender. Can Joe Sakic and company do it again with Georgiev?
