Department of Player Safety punishes Zach Kassian

NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Edmonton's Zack Kassian $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking Los Angeles' Sean Durzi.

Kassian cross-checked Durzi in the back during a scrum that broke out near centre ice. Kassian was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for cross-checking and finished the game with one goal as the Kings went on to win the game 5-4 in overtime.

Kassian had six goals and 19 points in 58 games, his seventh with the Oilers.

Kassian has a reputation of toeing the line when it comes to the hits he throws. He has been suspended on multiple occasions. His longest suspenion in the NHL was seven games for kicking Tampa Bay's Erik Cernak.

Kassian's Oilers are currently down 3-2 in their first round series against the LA Kings. Game 6 is Thursday night.
