An ex-NHL enforcer has lashed out at Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney, as well as other former NHL players who are now in management positions

It's been a turbulent few days for the Boston Bruins. Shortly after firing head coach Jim Montgomery, Bruins GM Don Sweeney issued a harsh warning to Boston's players and staff regarding the potential for more changes.

There are many Bruins fans who believe any change within the organization needs to start with Sweeney himself. An ex-NHL enforcer agrees wholeheartedly.

John Scott, of the Dropping the Gloves podcast, said NHL teams need to stop putting former NHL players in high-ranking management positions, singling out both Bruins GM Don Sweeney, and Bruins President Cam Neely.

Scott insists former players that become executives are given far too much leniency because of their importance to their respective organizations, and he believes it needs to stop.

"Good players ≠ good executives and the mystique around who they are often deflects blame.

[Cam] Neely. [Steve] Yzerman. [Rob] Blake. [Brendan] Shanahan.

If they weren't NHL legends they would have been fired already."

Like it or not, John Scott does have a point. In Don Sweeney's case, he's been the GM in Boston since 2015. In that time frame, the Bruins went to the Stanley Cup Final once, in 2019 when they lost to the St. Louis Blues.

Don Sweeney has explained his decision to fire Jim Montgomery by saying players aren't where they need to be .

It may be more so that the roster that Sweeney has cobbled together simply isn't good enough to compete.
