Edmonton Oilers defender left leaking after things get heated after the final buzzer
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3 last night. The game wasn't without some controversy as a player in the 3rd period left the Wild furious with officials.
Less than a minute into the 3rd period, Oilers forward delivered a clear hit from behind on defender Jonas Brodin. The hit was delivered clearly on the numbers, but the referee who was feet away felt this wasn't worthy of a penalty. Wild forward Ryan Hartman, who saw the play, attempted to challenge Kane to drop the gloves.
However, Kane was unwilling to accept the challenge and Hartman picked up a minor penalty for roughing. The Wild were furious by the lack of call and those emotions carried over until the final whistle. With the Wild chasing the game, when the final horn went things escalated quickly.
When all was said and done, Oilers defender Mattias Ekholm was left leaking and it was clear the teams weren't finished with each other. The two teams meet again February 23rd.
