Emergency situation in the WHL
An emergency situation unfolded earlier tonight in Brandon, Manitoba as 16-year-old, Charlie Elick suffered a significant injury. With 3 seconds left in the 2nd period Elick collided with a member of the Prince Albert Raiders. The collision sent Elick awkwardly into the boards, where he lied motionless.
Late in the second period, the game is suddenly very much a secondary issue. Wheat Kings defenseman Charlie Elick is being stretchered off the ice after a collision on the right wing boards. He went in extremely awkwardly. Both teams training staff were out right away.
After Elick hit the boards he was immediately tended to by both teams medical staffs. According to Perry Bergson, this staff immediately signalled that this was an emergency situation.
The good news is that Elick was able to signal with a thumbs up as he was taken from the ice. Unfortunately at this time there have been no further on Elick's condition.
