Luke Hughes, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 National Hockey League entry draft by the New Jersey Devils who returned to the University of Michigan fresh off a trip to the World Junior Hockey Championship was subjected to some rather unpleasant heckling as seen and heard in the short video clip posted.
In the video as Hughes and his teammates take the ice a spectator is heard saying «Hughes, you let America down. Traitor!»
Now as a sports fan myself and my first passion being the game of hockey I can understand the fans' frustration as the Americans certainly underachieved finishing third after losing the semi-finals to Canada and beating Sweden for bronze however fans need to learn tact and restraint when voicing their displeasure, especially when the fan is likely a bit older than Luke Hughes who's 19.
Unfortunately, we will always see this in sports where fans will take things over the top. Athletes expect to hear individuals voicing their displeasure, but sometimes it goes way too far
