If Marc-Andre Fleury retires at the end of this season, he'll be known as much for being one of the most universally liked players in the league as he is for being a three-time Stanley Cup Champion. His love for fans, and their love for him was on full display in Pittsburgh tonight in what may be his last game in the city where it all started.
With the Minnesota Wild in town to take on the Penguins, Fleury was taking part in warmups when he noticed a little girl with a sign saying her middle name is "Fleury." He made sure to get a photo with her before moving on.
While Fleury is in Pittsburgh, he's not the Wild's starter tonight. That's a move that caught many by surprise, perhaps even Fleury himself. Fans let him know they wanted him to play with a "We Want Fleury!" chant.
Fleury is an easy choice for the Hockey Hall of Fame once he retires. And I bet he'll accept it with as much grace and appreciation as he did throughout his career.
