Former Jack Adams Trophy winner passes away
The Jack Adams Trophy is awarded every year to the coach voted to be the best in the NHL. The trophy has been awarded 47 times to 39 different coaches. One of those coaches was Orval Tessier. Tessier won the award in 1983 as coach of the Chicago Blackhawks.
That year Tessier led the Hawks to a 106 point season, but were eventually swept by the Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs. Tessier would go on to coach the Hawks for 2 more seasons before being fired.
Condolences to the family and friends of Orval Tessier, a prominent face in Quebec hockey, who passed away in the last few days. He was a Jack-Adams Trophy winner (1983) in the #NHL and a President Cup and Memorial Cup winner at the junior level.
Tessier finished his coaching career with a 99-93-21 record. Tessier would go on to win a Stanley Cup as a scout for the Colorado Avalanche during the 2001 season.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Tessier family.
