Former national team member passes away during combat mission
Some sad news to report on in the hockey world on Friday as long-time Ukrainian League forward and former national team member Alexander Khmil has passed away at the age of 42.
According to multiple reports, Khmil was killed during a combat mission while in the Donetsk region of Ukraine earlier this week.
Khmil spent the majority of his playing career in Ukraine, winning a league championship during the 2006-07 season with ATEK Kyiv. In 223 Ukrainian League games across parts of 12 seasons, Khmil had 213 points.
On the international stage, Khmil represented Ukraine on a handful of occasions, including at the top division of the 2000 World Juniors, where he put up two points in seven games.
