Now's the time during the National Hockey League off-season where teams are more likely to invite veterans without a contract to NHL camps. This is likely because of the way the salary cap is and also in some cases a gesture of goodwill.
On that note, the New Jersey Devils have invited veteran defenceman Thomas Hickey to camp on a professional try out according to their Twitter account.
Hickey, 33, played just two games in the NHL last year with the New York Islanders recording no points. He did however play 44 games in the AHL collecting 18 points.
Could this be Hickey's last chance to stick with an NHL team? Or is it a goodwill gesture? Camp opens for the Devils on the 21st, so, we'll soon find out
