Montreal Canadiens defenseman gives laughable quote on teams expectations
The Montreal Canadiens had a season to remember last year. They became the first team in NHL history to finish 32nd overall. That after making a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in the year before. The Canadiens collapse shows the parity in the NHL at full display.
But as quickly as they fell from grace, at least one member of the Montreal Canadiens feel that they can turn it around. Veteran defenseman Joel Edmundson was asked about the Canadiens rebuild and he has the following to say:
Rebuilding? That was last year. I think we're ready to take the next step Our mindset is we're making the playoffs.
Last season the Canadiens were ravaged by injuries, but even a healthy team likely doesn't make the playoffs. The Canadiens would have to find a way to leapfrog one of the Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins. Not to mention the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators have all taken giant leaps forward.
It's probably time the Canadiens players and management begin to set realistic expectations for their fan base, because this year's team isn't much better than the team they iced last season.
