With the NHL season nearly at the All Star break, teams are in major need of cap relief. Since the Holiday season has ended, waivers have been used more to clear cap space.
Today, the waiver wire has been quiet with no new names being added to it, however, both Jake Leschyshyn and Casey Fitzgerald who were placed on waivers by the Vegas Golden Knights and the Buffalo Sabres respectively have been picked up according to Sportsnets Elliotte Friedman.
Leschyshyn, 23, has struggled to find his footing at the NHL level since being drafted by the Golden Knights. Registering no points in 22 games with Vegas this year and just 6 points across 63 games all time. Maybe playing for a team like the New York Rangers helps, however, historically they're not really good at developing prospects.
Fitzgerald, who was picked up by the Florida Panthers, had just 3 points in 23 games with the Sabres this year. All of them assists.
Hopefully one or both of these guys finds their game with their new teams, otherwise, this might be their last shot in the NHL.
