Not much mercy on this one, and I'm sure Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils is feeling it.
Hughes was hit by Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers late in this first period. It happened as the referee is simultaneously blowing the play dead, something Hathaway had no control over. It's a hard hit that caught Hughes unaware. Hathaway was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for boarding.
Flyers coach John Tortorella was not at all happy with the call, and he gave the official an earful about it.
Tortorella may have a right to be upset. A lot of complaints about this call are circulating on social media, with many saying the play did not warrant a penalty.
