The National Hockey League and the NHL Department of Player Safety have steadily declined recently. It seems they've just thrown any framework of player safety out the window, especially during these playoffs.

First, it was no supplemental discipline for Jordan Eberle after hitting Andrew Cogliano from behind, fracturing his neck in the first round, and now, there's not even a hearing for Vegas Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar after he boarded Edmonton Oilers defender Mattias Ekhomholm, resulting in a 5-minute major and misconduct:

For Petro, the hearing was announced at 7:45 AM PT. If Kolesar was getting suspended, a hearing would've been announced by now.

The above tweet was made just after noon today, and the NHL offices closed at 5. The day has come and gone and yet, not a whisper of a hearing for a hit that got Kolesar kicked out of game 5 last night.

This has gone on long enough. What is going to have to happen for an actual punishment to be handed out.

Thank goodness Ekholm was okay on the play, but at this rate, someone is going to have to be paralyzed or worse for any kind of punishment. That is atrocious.

The NHL can go around saying they care about player safety all they want, but time and time again, Parros and company show something drastically different.
