The video feels unbelievably grim in a hilarious way. It was known that some features of Mullet Arena would not be finished prior to the season's start, but to see the visitor's dressing room in an NHL arena be just a few curtains on an empty sheet of ice is something else.
Reportedly, teams will dress in this «room» and be shuttled towards the actual ice surface, which is not immediately nearby.
To be fair to the Coyotes, visiting teams will have to use this as their dressing room only for the first four games of the season while the construction to the arena is completed. Still, the optics of this move could not be worse for the organization and the league. They truly define the classic insult of «poverty franchise».
It's an imperative for the league to better the situation in Arizona as soon as possible, and frankly they should already have relocation plans in progress. Not only this, but the NHLPA should push back against the facilities here being completely subpar to the standards of the league. It's truly a disadvantage for any player that has to play for the Coyotes. The NHL, already clearly lagging behind other major sports leagues, does itself no favours with amateur displays such as this at the professional level.
