This summer Matthew Tkachuk informed the Calgary Flames that he was intending to accept a one-year deal and walk next year as an unrestricted free agent. After losing Johnny Gaudreau, Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving immediately went to work trying to extract top value for his young star. That process began immediately after the Flames received a list of teams Tkachuk would sign an extension with from his agents at Newport Sports.

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic the Newport Sports provided the Flames with a group of 6 teams he'd be willing to accept a trade to:

The Flames investigated the market for Tkachuk based on the list of teams they had. It's believed that the original list from Newport Sports included the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes and, of course, Florida Panthers.

It's clear given the salary cap implications and amount of time Treliving has, he clearly was able to extract maximum value. As the regular season begins we are likely to receive more and more information about things that went down this offseason.
