Insider reveals the reason Andreas Johnsson wanted his NHL contract terminated by the Penguins
Yesterday Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins placed, forward Andreas Johnsson on unconditional waivers for purposes of terminating his contract. Johnsson had signed with the Penguins over the summer with hopes of keeping his NHL career alive. He was unable to make the team out of camp and was going to be assigned to the American Hockey League.
However, Johnsson wasn't happy with that option. While his dream was to play in the NHL, his other dream was to play hockey with his brother. Now that his contract is terminated he will have that chance. NHL insider Chris Johnston shared the following information today:
With his NHL contract now officially terminated, Andreas Johnsson has signed with Skellefte AIK until 2027.
That'll give him the chance to play with his brother Jonathan in the SHL.
This three-year contract will give Andreas an opportunity to play hockey professionally but also being close to family. Good luck in all your future endeavors.
