John Tavares in excruciating pain after getting hit by teammates slapshot
The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a 4-3-0 start, despite their lackluster effort on multiple nights. During that span it has appeared that John Tavares has managed to turn back the clock and is playing with a new found speed and determination. Tavares has 8 points in the first 7 games of the season.
Last night though Tavares took a blistering slapshot from teammate Rasmus Sandin directly off his knee. The shot immediately dropped Tavares, who was in considerable amounts of pain. Tavares was unable to put any weight on his leg as he was helped off the ice.
Tavares eventually made his way back to the bench after about 6 minutes, but was only able to take part in two additional shifts. It's likely Tavares wakes up this morning and gets a full view of how serious the injury is. Right now though an injury to Tavares could be catastrophic for the Leafs depth down the middle. Especially with Auston Matthews sitting at just 1 goal this season.
