The Edmonton Oilers were able to avenge last weekend's home loss to the St Louis Blues by winning their game last night in St Louis 3-1. In case you missed it, there was an incident between Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and Edmonton forward Evander Kane. Kane was driving to the net hard and ended up at the top of Binnington's crease. Binnington took exception to Kane's play and used his glove hand to punch Kane in the face. Kane immediately looked to the officials, but no penalty was called.

Binnington has a reputation for losing his cool while on the ice. It does not come as a surprise that he punched Kane. Goalies are not fair game, and players cannot and should not take runs at them. So, to see a goalie stand up himself is good to see. During Kane's tenure with San Jose, he speared Binnington right in the mid-section and was called for a penalty.

Clearly the two players have a developed a dislike for one another over the years. In last night game, Kane really did not do anything wrong. He was crashing the net looking for a lose puck. He never actually came into contact with Binnington. Perhaps the two had words during the game before this that caused Binnington to punch Kane. Or Binnington recalled Kane's dirty play from previous seasons and decided that it was time to return the favor.
