The puck hasn't even dropped yet on the 2022 NHL season but shot are already being thrown off the ice. On July 7th the next batch of future NHL stars headed to Montreal for the NHL Draft. This group included Shane Wright and Juraj Slafkovsky. Wright was the consensus choice for first overall pick in the draft, but the Canadiens opted to throw a twist in the draft taking Juraj Slafkovsky.
After being selected fourth overall Wright would give the Canadiens a death stare from the stage, the stare he'd later deny. Wright would downplay "The Stare" but everyone knew he wasn't happy not going first overall. Wright would admit, "I'm going to have a chip on my shoulder for sure."
This rivalry could be much more, but with the two players playing in different conferences they'll only get to meet twice per season. On Wednesday, a video from Hockey Slovakia started going viral when both Slafkovsky, and New Jersey Devils' second overall pick, Simon Nemec were filmed doing their best Wright death-stare.
It's clear that Slafkovsky have big shoes to fill because adding fuel to Wright's fire might not be the best move.
