Kyle Dubas provides update on Ryan O'Reilly's surgically repaired finger
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of a long and well known battle of failing to get past the first round since 2004. The fan base are foaming at the mouth to get out the first round and with the moves that general manager Kyle Dubas made around the deadline, this year it could be a real possibility.
The Maple Leaf fan base took a collective gasp when their top trade acquisition forward Ryan O'Reilly had suffered a serious injury, but thankfully this does not look like it will be as serious as first reported.
On Monday, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on his injured forward and the news was overwhelmingly positive with Keefe indicating that he expects O'Reilly to return to the ice in short order. To be clear O'Reilly isn't cleared to play by any stretch of the imagination, but he is expected to resume skating sometime this week.
"He has not skated yet, but it's imminent,"
revealed Keefe to reporters.
"He has been in every day and doing what he needs to do to get ready. I was told he was expected on skates this week."
O'Reilly was having a solid start to his Maple Leaf's career, with 3 goals and 5 points in 8 games. He was winning draws at an impressive 67.52% rate, while providing coach Keefe with so many options up front.
