Some sad news has come out in the hockey world on Tuesday as it's been announced that longtime NHL defenceman Brad Maxwell is battling lung cancer, which has unfortunately spread to other parts of his body.

"It is with great sadness that we share Brad Maxwell is currently battling aggressive lung cancer that has unfortunately spread," the GoFundMe post reads. "As a former Minnesota North Star player and current President of the MN NHL Alumni, he has brought joy and excitement to the ice for many fans. It is difficult to share that chemo and radiation are no longer working, but we are hopeful that a brand new treatment he is currently undergoing will be successful in his fight against cancer."

The Brandon, Manitoba native appeared in 612 games across parts of ten seasons with the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers, where he had 368 points and 1,292 penalty minutes. During his time with the North Stars, he helped them reach the 1981 Stanley Cup Final.

Everyone here at Blade of Steel is thinking of Brad Maxwell at this very difficult time. If you're able to donate to Maxwell's GoFundMe, the link can be found here: GoFundMe.
