All there's been surrounding William Nylander this off-season are trade proposals and the eventuality that he wouldn't be a part of the Toronto Maple Leaf organization very much longer. This made sense because of the Leafs cap situation, but as it turns out, the Leafs may not move on from the Swedish winger after all.
According to Leafs Latest, it appears that extending Nylander is actually a part of the plan for new Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving; take a look.
Nylander, 27, skated in all 82 games for the Leafs last season and had a fantastic year scoring 40 goals and adding 47 assists for a total of 87 points. This season had seemingly priced himself out of Toronto, but if anyone is going to pull some cap gymnastics, it would be the Leafs.
One thing is for certain, in order to retain the services of Nylander, the Leafs need to clear a lot of cap space to do it and from the sounds of it, they might just do that.
