Back in February, the Toronto Maple Leaf's first round pick from 2020, Rodion Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It's a scary diagnosis for anyone, no matter their age or health situation. Amirov went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and it remains to be seen if he will have to go for more. But on Wednesday, Amirov updated everyone on his status.
Translated to English:
Our club has done a tremendous job in terms of treatment, organization. For example, they helped me in Germany. I am very grateful to Salavat Yulaev for their support in everything. Many thanks to the management and the entire system of the club. Recovery is going great. Now I am taking courses prescribed by doctors. I recover, I train: everything, thank God, is going well.
Rodion Amirov is still on the road to recovery but is taking encouraging steps. The Maple Leafs have agreed to keep Amirov on loan to Salavat Yulaev of the KHL. This way he can remain at home making it a shorter and easier commute to Germany where he has received most of his treatment.
This is truly an inspiring story as Rodion Amirov still continues to skate multiple times a week while receiving chemotherapy. Most people have trouble getting up in the morning when dealing with something like this. His journey has truly been inspiring.
