San Jose Sharks forward Andrei Svechnikov was trying to get into the head of Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury but ended up taking an unnecessary penalty.
The bizarre situation unfolded in front of the Wild net, seemingly unprompted, and resulted in Svechnikov taking a couple of whacks and pokes at the Wild goalie with his stick. This was enough to draw the ire of veteran Marcus Foligno who quickly came to the defense of his goalie, but even the intervention from Foligno wasn't enough to make Svechnikov stop his antics.
The Sharks forward would continue to taunt Fleury after Foligno stepped in and even delivered a pretty clear slash to Fleury which resulted in the officials finally stepping in, and a 2 minute minor penalty for Svechnikov.
Svechnikov antics proved unsuccessful as the Sharks were defeated 5-2. Minnesota used it as fuel, Foligno confirmed this during his post game interview calling it call it a "turning point" in the game.
Fleury was asked post game if he thought Sharks' goalie James Reimer was challenging him to a fight.
He smiled.
This prompted Fleury's long-time agent Allan Walsh to bring to light a great quote from the legendary future Hall of Fame Goalie.
So Fleury still has a goalie fight and a goal left on his NHL score card to accomplish everything he ever wanted to.
