Johnny Gaudreau shocked the hockey world at the tail end of the first day of free agency by signing a 7-year contract with a $9,700,000 AAV with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
As we all could guess, Calgary fans and media alike aren't too happy about his departure, and I want to preface this by saying fans are allowed to feel however they want. However, a member of the Calgary media and Sportsnet's own Eric Engels appeared on 650 radio to sound off on what he thought about the Gaudreau signing
I get the frustration and the sadness about their franchise centrepiece leaving in free agency, but Eric, come on man, sounding off on national radio about a choice that Gaudreau had every right to make, is not only unprofessional, but rather unbecoming of you as a person. He doesn't owe the city of Calgary or the fans an explanation, in fact, it's quite the opposite. His contract came to an end, he was unemployed and Gaudreau made a choice that worked for him.
Quite frankly, Mr Engels, you make other media personnel look bad with your cry baby behaviour.
