NHL Department of Player Safety fines Alex Romanov for HUGE hit
Last night during a preseason game between the New York Islanders and New York Rangers, Alex Romanov threw a huge hit on Vincent Trocheck. On the play Romanov was given 2-minutes for charging, while Jimmy Vesey was issued 2-minutes for roughing, for trying to fight Romanov on the play.
Unfortunately for Romanov, the NHL Department of Player Safety work up and decided that they'd issue a fine for what was seemingly a harmless hit.
NY Islanders' Alexander Romanov has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Charging NY Rangers' Vincent Trocheck. Fans appear to be divided on this punishment with Rangers fans calling for a suspension and Islanders fans calling the hit clean. But all things considered this seems to be just a regular hit that occurs in almost every game.
Punishing hits like this will just continue to soften the game.
