Referees have been under fire all season for the poor officiating, but tonight it appears things have been taken to an entirely different level. During tonight's game between the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres, a controversial play has caught many people's attention.

Midway through the 3rd period, Nate Schmidt and Dylan Cozens come together in the neutral zone. As Schmidt spins around his hand comes up and he catches Cozens with a butt end directly to the face. Cozens was immediately left wobbly and he needed help to the bench.

After the play the referees came together to review the play and gave Schmidt 2 minutes for roughing. The only problem with that is the play was non-reviewable. After the initial infraction, the Jets play the puck and the play isn't blown dead. When the officials notice the wobbly Cozens that's when the play is blown dead.

After the play is blown dead though that is when everyone finally comes together for the review. Multiple fans made note of the decision by the referees.

The Sabres would go onto score on the powerplay and win the game 3-2. This reviewed play ultimately played a very big role in the outcome of this game. There are going to be a lot of questions asked about this play after the game.

Cozens left the game in concussion protocol and did not return.
