Way back in 2014 the Rangers took a gamble on a Russian goalie who they selected in the 4th round, 118th overall. This goalie is Igor Shesterkin.
At the time a member of Moscow Spartak in the KHL, the Rangers selected him with high hopes for the future. The next season Shesterkin became a member of the St. Petersburg SKA team where he only played a handful of games in his first 2 seasons, but in the 2016-17 season he became the teams starter and absolutely shot out of a rocket!
His stats while the starter of St. Peterberg were ungodly:
16-17: 0.937 SV%. 1.64 GAA
17-18: 0.933 SV% 1.69 GAA
18-19: 0.953 SV% 1.11 GAA
After the 18-19 season, Shesterkin make his trek over to North America where he began his season with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Normally some goalies have an adjustment period, where they leave the style of the North American game, but not Shesterkin, right out of the gate he played great for the Wolf Pack, going 17-4-3 with a .934SV% and 1.90 GAA during his time in the AHL.
Later that same year he made his NHL debut and hasn't left the time since. In his rookie year with the Rangers he had an impressive: 0.932 SV% and 2.52 GAA.
Now just over 2 years since making his NHL debut, Shesterkin has just set a new franchise record for the fastest goalie to reach 50 wins.
