New York Rangers top prospect goes head hunting and delivers huge hit in defense of a teammate
Every once and awhile a prospect comes along who can take the physicality he played with in junior hockey and translate it directly to the NHL. That was the hope for the New York Rangers when they drafted Brennan Othmann. Othmann was a known trouble maker in junior hockey who was known for throwing his weight around.
Tonight, Othmann showed that his style of play will translate perfectly. After Kappo Kakko was on the receiving end of a cheap shot from Scott Mayfield, Othmann took note. Othmann then caught Sebastien Aho with his head down and took the opportunity to lay a huge hit.
Othmann was given a penalty on the play, but it was negated when Islanders defender Grant Hutton took a roughing penalty of his own.
