Following the passing of Adam Johnson over the weekend, a lot of professional teams have mandated the use of neck guards, now, another league has mandated the use of the neck guard.
The Western Hockey League (WHL) have announced that they will mandate the use of neck guards as of Friday, November 3rd; Take a look.
The Western Hockey League announced today the adoption of mandatory neck guard protection, effective Friday November 3rd or as soon as the protective equipment is available to clubs. All WHL players will be required to wear protective neck guard equipment at all times while participating in on-ice activities, including WHL games and practices
It's nice to see more and more leagues step up and make this change in the wake of an unbelievable tragedy.
I thought it was already mandatory in major junior hockey because they're high level kids, but in any case, this is a good step in making the game safer for all.
