The NHL offseason will be hitting peak entertainment level this week with the upcoming NHL Draft on Wednesday and Free Agency offically kicking off on Saturday.

The Edmonton Oilers, like many other teams will be trying to maneuver a tight cap situation. One name that Edmonton has been lined to is a former teammate of captain Connor McDavid, that player is Connor Brown. McDavid and Brown were teammates for two seasons with the Erie Otters and share the same agent.

Elliotte Friedman discussed the situation with Brown as free agency approaches on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast and said,

«I think there is a lot of teams out there curious about what Connor Brown is thinking and where he's going, and whether or not he's guaranteed to go to Edmonton.»
Edmonton is tight on cap and most likely can't make him the biggest offer he's going to get in free agency.

Friedman adds

"teams can't talk to UFA's prior to July 1, but, I'll put it this way - he's getting wined and dined by certain (Oilers) players"

Brown recently joined former Oiler Luke Gazdic on his podcast, Mitts Off, and spoke on potentially landing in Edmonton, saying

«You'd be lying to say no. Of course, it would be awesome to play with (Connor) McDavid. He's going to win a Cup eventually, and as a player that's what I want to do. I want to winand winning is a big priority in where you're going to land.»

The 29 year old is coming off a fairly serious injury that kept him out of action for all but four games last season. If Brown signs with Edmonton he would add some much needed offensive punch to the teams top six.
