Panthers Make Surprising Roster Move
Going into Florida Panthers training camp many had Spencer Knight penciled in to beat out Anthony Stolarz for the number two job behind Sergei Bobrovsky. Today Florida made a surprising move, loaning the 13th pick from 2019 draft to their AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers.
The 22 year old is waiver exempt and will head straight to the AHL. Knight hasn't played with Florida since leaving the team in February to join the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. It was later revealed that Knight is battling with obsessive compulsive disorder.
The move will give Knight the opportunity to become the starter of the Checkers and get more playing time than if he would have stayed on the NHL roster behind Bobrovsky.
Florida signed Stolarz on the first day of free agency and he has played well in his opportunities during the preseason.
The Panthers play their final preseason game on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
