Recently a spectator was caught using derogatory language in Almonte, ON, approximately forty minutes west of Ottawa during an under-16 game versus a team from Brockville.
While spectators have always voiced their displeasure with officiating, society has lost the ability to use tact when criticizing an individual who is trying their best to do their job.
With the understanding the game in question involved participants under sixteen, it's safe to assume that the individual in the video is probably a parent.
To combat and prevent situations like this from occurring more often, Hockey Canada along with their paying hockey associations should collaborate on a code of conduct that prevents situations like this from occurring again.
This code of conduct should in essence be signed by those who are in the arena at any given time with the intent of watching or participating in the game itself; this may include players, coaches, & other bench staff.
The individual hockey organizations should also determine whether or not they require parents or regular spectators to sign off on a code of conduct as well so to prevent a situation like this from occurring again.
