Kris Letang has been one of the cornerstones of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise for over a decade. Along with a handful of others including Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and the since departed Marc-Andre Fleury. As it appears, his story in the steel city might not be coming to a close like we originally thought.

According to Pierre Lebrun of TSN, Letang and the Penguins have been involved in serious contract discussions since their playoff run ended in round one against the New York Rangers. Still no official word If a deal is close or not, but it's encouraging that the two sides have been talking a new contact for an extended period of time.

Letang, 35, has spent his entire 16-year NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 941 career games he has complied 144 goals and 506 assists for an even 650 points. Including 10 goals and 58 assists for 68 points on 78 games this past season.

OPINION: Sentimentally, I would like to see Letang wrap up his career with the same franchise that he started with. Partly because it doesn't happen all too often and partly because Pittsburgh has been there for him through some difficult, career-threatening injuries.
