The Pittsburgh Penguins have been off to a rocky start this season, something that many thought would be better considering the addition of Erik Karlsson last off season. Unfortunately, that's not how things have worked out during his short stint in Pittsburgh.
Now, according to Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, the Penguins would be open to trading Karlsson; take a look.
Karlsson, 33, has skated in 30 games for the Penguins this season tallying just 6 goals and adding 16 assists for 22 points. This would usually be a pretty good start to the season for any defender, but coming off of his exceptional season last year, you would've hoped for a little more if you're the Pittsburgh organization.
With the Penguins now open to trading the 3-time Norris winner and 5-time All-star, is it fair to say the Karlsson experiment didn't work on Steel City? I think so. Or maybe Kyle Dubas never really needed to acquire him in the first place and he just hasn't fit in with the group.
Either way, trade discussions 30 games into his Penguins tenure is not a good sign of things to come.
