The Dallas Stars made a big contract extension with Roope Hintz. The Finish center signed an eight-year contract worth sixty-seven million dollars. While this is big news for the Stars and their organization, it's also big news for the rest of the NHL. Particularly for pending free agents. NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that Bo Horvat and Dylan Larkin will be two of the bigger names on the unrestricted free agent market. When both players are looking to sign new contracts, they might use the Hintz contract as a reference point.

If you produce points regularly or play well in the NHL, you're going to get compensated quite well. One thing is clear, today's NHL players are getting paid huge salaries. What will Auston Matthews next contract look like? In a salary cap era NHL teams better be sure they know what their doing or it could be a huge mistake.

Good for Roope Hintz for signing his big extension. He's a great center and will be a key player for the Dallas Stars for a very long time. Dallas now has Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Miro Heiskanen all signed to long-term contracts. The future looks bright in Dallas. Let's see how Hintz contract impacts the rest of the leagues unrestricted free agent forwards. Stay tuned.
