Russian hockey player sadly passes away at the age of 21
Some very sad news to report on in the hockey world on Thursday as a Russian player by the name of Georgi Savin has passed away at the age of 21 after taking his own life.
The Moscow native was playing the system of Russian club HC Vityaz Podolsk for the last several years and even appeared in 13 games in the KHL during the 2021-22 season, scoring one goal.
This past season he split between the VHL with Ryazan-VDV and the NMHL with MHK Ryazan-VDV. In five VHL games, he didn't record any points, while in six NMHL games, he put up two points.
Our thoughts are with Savin's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
Initial reports on Telegram state that Savin jumped off of the 18th floor of a building to his death. A photo accompanied the post that for respect for the family we will not share, but confirms Savin's identity.
