San Jose Sharks announce two former players are joining their coaching staff
The San Jose Sharks have made it official, announcing they have hired former NHLers' Tommy Wingels & Luca Sbisa as development coaches.
Wingels and Sbisa will work alongside long-time Sharks development coach Mike Ricci, under new director of player development Todd Marchant.
Wingels, 34, last played hockey in Switzerland back in 2019-20. He spent 448 games in the NHL with San Jose, Ottawa, Chicago, and Boston, putting up 143 points. Six out of Wingels' eight seasons in the NHL were with the Sharks organization.
Sbisa, 32, last played hockey in the NHL in 2020-21. He played 549 NHL games with Philadelphia, Anaheim, Vancouver, Las Vegas, New York, Winnipeg, and Nashville, putting up 113 points.
Wingels told San Jose Hockey Now after he retired:
«Everything about my time in San Jose will be the pinnacle and the highlight of my career. It was such a special time."
