Seattle Kraken forward may have to call it a career
Joonas Donskoi started his NHL career in 2015 with the San Jose Sharks and has spent the last 3 seasons in Colorado and Seattle, as he was picked up during the 2021 expansion draft.
Last season the winger played 75 games and put up 2 goals and 20 assists, for 22 points overall. However, there is troubling news for him having not played at all this season.
Donskoi told Toni Länkinen of Raahen Seutu that he had suffered his 7th concussion at the start of this season and is still experiencing symptoms. The symptoms include blurry vision, vertigo, and headaches.
It really isn't unfortunate that Donskoi won't be able to join his current teammates and share in the joy of their current success. However, with his 7th concussion, it sounds like his career may be over.
If Donskoi were to retire today, he finishes his career with 474 games played, 80 goals,128 assists, and 208 points total.
It may be in his best interest to hang the skates, knowing everything we know about concussions, it's just not worth the risk.
