Player tries through gruesome injury, but has to call it quits halfway through the season
During the NHL off-season, there were some major moves made by the Vancouver Canucks, and picking up UFA Illya Mikheyev was one signed by Jim Rutherford. He was a good depth piece in Toronto and looked to make a difference in Vancouver.
During his first season in Vancouver, things haven't been going so well for the winger.
The right winger, who's been deployed on the 2nd line lately has been injured since the pre-season, with an ACL injury.
For Mikheyev this is an season-ending injury as Patrik Allvin let the media know that the winger would be back eventually in-time for training camp.
While it's commendable Mikheyev tried to play through it, it was time for the Canucks to shut him down for the season. Sometimes, being tough only hurts you in the long run, especially with an injury like this.
Even with his knee issue Mikheyev was having what was on of, if not the best season in the NHL notching 28 points in 46 games including 13 goals and 15 assists, just 4 points shy of a career high.
Here's to Mikheyev's recovery and this time around, he takes the time to fully heal and not try to play through an injury that isn't fully healed
