When a player gets drafted into the National Hockey League, lots of things go through their head including whether or not being in the city that has their rights is a good fit for them, whether in the short or long term. But if a veteran who has been loyal to a team feels as if his time is coming to an end and the ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup, the decision to move on is certainly something that weighs on one's mind.

This isn't any more evident than long time San Jose Captain and Centre Logan Couture who has sniffed the Stanley Cup final, but lost out to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016. Couture, who has four years left on his deal with the Sharks understands that his job is with the Sharks, but if you read between the tea leaves it seems as if he'd be happy to move on to play with another franchise, for a fresh start and an opportunity to lift hockey's holy grail, the Stanley Cup.

Couture's commitment to the Sharks is admirable, especially as he's seen many teammates come and go and ultimately be successful elsewhere. But as fans we all know that when you start a career in the NHL, there is no denying that the opportunity to have your name engraved on the Cup is something all players have dreamed of and want, at any cost.

The window for Couture is closing quite quickly and if the right situation comes along both the franchise and the player would be foolish not to at least consider it. But bny all accounts, the captain appears to be content at least on the surface to continue to help the team get back to a level of respectability and maybe get another chance to have a long run in the playoffs sooner rather than later.
