Yesterday afternoon the Columbus Blue Jackets placed 28-year-old goaltender Spencer Martin on waivers. The Jackets had hoped to assign him to the American Hockey League while they looked to trade Elvis Merzļikins.
The Jackets claimed Martin off waivers before the 2023-24 season began by from the Vancouver Canucks after they added a veteran presence in their backup role.
The Oakville, Ontario native has appeared in 13 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets where he has a record of 3-8-1 with a 3.65 goals against average and an .887 save percentage.
Today it was announced that the Carolina Hurricanes have placed a claim for Martin and have officially taken him off of waivers.
The Hurricanes have been searching for an answer in goal after Frederik Andersen was diagnosed with a rare medical condition and Antti Raanta has struggled. After an injury to Pyotr Kochetkov the Hurricanes are desperate for help in goal.
