Every Canadian hockey team has an extremely loyal and frugal fanbase. The Vancouver Canucks are no exception to that rule.

As with everything, with time, things end up surfacing and an insider has revealed some interesting facts about Dave Nonis's tenure as the GM of the Vancouver Canucks.

All I got to say there is you have to make decisions that are the best for the team, not the best for yourself...Do what's right for the team going forward.

If we read between the lines, Nonis was apparently fired from the Canucks for not trading for Brad Richards. He clearly had a vision and he clearly wanted what was best for the team regardless if he would lose his job.

In 2006, he did what was best for the team. Nonis completed a blockbuster trade which saw Roberto Luongo move to Vancouver from the Florida Panthers for Todd Bertuzzi in return. It was seen as one of the greatest moves of all time for Vancouver.

If that's not a true dedication to the team and its success, I think the bar is way too high for GM's of Canadian teams.
