Two NHL cities in the running to host 2025 international best-on-best event
Best-on-best international hockey is right around the corner and an official announcement could be coming on Friday.
The last time their was a best-on-best international event was the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and it appears that four nations will be participating in tournament next February.
It's been reported that Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States will be playing in a scaled down international tournament at some point in February 2025, and while the format is unclear at this time, it appears that two NHL cities are in the running to host the event.
According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Montreal's Bell Centre and Boston's TD Garden are in the mix to host the tournament next year.
"According to @renlavoietva, an announcement is imminent regarding an international NHL tournament in February 2025 featuring 4 teams of NHL players from Canada, USA, Finland and Sweden. He mentions that Montreal & Boston are finalists to host this tournament. Thoughts 👀 ?" @HFTVSports said in a post on X.
The NHL's 2025 international tournament is expected to be a prelude to a larger and more consistent best-on-best schedule which will see players go to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy and a full-scale World Cup of Hockey in 2028.
