Washington Capitals trade Vitek Vanecek
Last season the Washington Capitals lost Vitek Vanecek to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft, only to turn around and trade a 2nd round pick to get him to return. This year the Capitals have decided Vanecek is no longer in their plans as they've officially dealt him to the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils were rumoured to have interest in Maple Leafs free agent, Jack Campbell. But it appears they found the prospect of young Vanecek far too tempting.
TRADE: The Capitals have traded goaltender Vitek Vanecek and the 46th pick to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for the 37th pick and the 70th pick in this year's draft.
Obviously a big move for Washington in the goaltending department. Caps have made it clear they want to bring in a veteran goalie either through free agency or a trade. With Vitek out of the picture, Ilya Samsonov the *current* lone option in WSH. This move likely removes New Jersey from the goalie market, but does create a hole for the Capitals who will now try and find a veteran to partner with Ilya Samsonov.
